Employer Summit: "Beyond the Hire: Hiring, Retaining, and Promoting People with Disabilities"

Primary Tasks

    Secondary Tasks

On October 24, 2017, the Employers Disability Resource Network (EDRN) hosted an

Employer Summit titled: "Beyond the Hire: Hiring, Retaining, and Promoting People

with Disabilities". This event is the bi-annual round-table discussion with our

business and community partners in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness

Month (NDEAM). Approximately 20 businesses and partners attended and had great

discussions of their successes and challenges when it comes to the employment of

individuals with disabilities. The format was a guided conversation facilitated by

Shannon Myers at Iowa Department for the Blind with opening remarks from Michelle

Krefft at Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. ENRN members Jim Plorins at Aging

Resources of Central Iowa, Diane Hernandez at Iowa Workforce Development, and Laura

Gibson at Central Iowa Center for Independent Living all provided their expertise

and helped to plan and execute the event. The businesses and partners who attended

decided on the topics and had an engaged discussion of the issues and opportunities

each of their organizations face in hiring individuals with disabilities. EDRN is

grateful to have such dedicated business and community partners. It was clear that

our business partners value relationships with EDRN and have a strong commitment to

finding employment solutions for individuals with disabilities. The next EDRN event

is the Reverse Job Fair which will be hosted by CICIL and held at Park Fair Mall on

      November 07, 2017 from 9-11am.
