The staff of the Iowa Department for the Blind continues to grow with the addition of two new members on December 8, 2014.

Maricela Duty recently moved from Dallas, Texas to become the IDB Tech division’s new VR Rehabilitation Technology Specialist. Marci comes to us with nine years of experience in assistive technology training, assessment, and work site experience with Christal Vision Inc. She also has more than nine years of experience in various IT support, customer service, instructional, and financial services positions. Augmenting her experience, knowledge, and skills is an energetic passion and enthusiasm about assistive technology.  She is a great addition to both our technology team and agency as a whole.

Brianna Gowen is the Independent Living program’s newest Rehabilitation Teacher. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. She served the Cedar Valley Community Support Services agency where she provided supported community living services and led peer group sessions. She also has experience working as an inclusion camp counselor for the YMCA and as transition camp counselor for the Iowa Department for the Blind. Aside from her academic background and work experiences, Brianna commits much of her free time to advocating for persons with diverse abilities and promoting Disability Awareness.
