Transform your ideas about the library: celebrate National Library Week April 10-16

A colorful poster proclaims Celebrate National LIbrary Week, April 10-16, 2016 and its theme Libraries Transform, and pictures graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang, Honorary Chair.(Des Moines, Iowa) – This week, the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped [1] joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today’s libraries. April 10-16 is National Library Week [2], a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more about what they do, for and with library users as opposed to what they have for patrons. Libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies, learn how to use a 3D printer or just relax.  Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including large print, Braille, and digital books.

Libraries of all types are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. At the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped we are transforming by launching a new service model that will provide patrons with more books but less cartridges, as each patron will receive two cartridges with ten books on each. This will allow our patrons to have more books and not have to wait for the most popular titles.

Please join the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped [1] in celebrating National Library Week!
