Hy-Vee Corporation Donation
The Iowa Department for the Blind, the Independent Living Program and our program staff sends our deepest appreciation to Hy-Vee Corporation and their respective Hy-Vee employees for a generous donation in the amount of $500.00. The donation will be used to defray certain program training costs for our upcoming Senior Orientation training event.
Elected Committee for Blind Managers Meeting
The next meeting of the Elected Committee of Blind Managers will occur at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Iowa Department for the Blind, 524 Fourth Street, Des Moines, Iowa. The tentative agenda is as follows:

Hilker-Pedretti grant aids Independent Living program

The Iowa Commission for the Blind will name a new director for the Iowa Department for the Blind after interviewing candidates on Saturday, April 14. The Commission conducted a nationwide search for applicants to fill the director position, focusing on candidates with knowledge of blindness and rehabilitation who have significant experience supervising professionals in the blindness and rehabilitation fields. Three finalists have been invited for interviews at the Department’s headquarters in Des Moines.
IDB Introduces New Building Access Design
If you have walked into the Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) building recently you may have noticed that some changes are afoot. An inviting corner for Library users and visitors has been created in a re-purposed portion of the first floor employee break room/cafeteria, just inside the north door/accessible entrance.
IDB Bus Listed for Auction

The Iowa Department for the Blind’s bus is being listed for auction. At this time, it is on the presale listing and live bidding begins on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. CDT. On that day the auction will run until all items are sold, which is typically around 1 p.m. Online bids may be offered prior to that date.
