      Blind Iowan progresses on path to vocational goals

      IDB VR Client Yesenia Leanos featured on KCCI

      Yesenia Leanos, of Perry, Iowa, is featured in a great story on KCCI News Channel 8. Her work helping to keep the recently revived Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa spotless is featured. To prepare for employment at the hotel, Yesenia has worked with two members of the  Iowa Department for the Blind's Vocational Rehablilitation staff--David Lenz and Toni Reimers--and Assistive Technology Specialist Laurie Holtry. We congratulate all four for their hard work!

      IDB offers Apple iOS7 VoiceOver workshops

      an Apple iPadTechnology specialists from the Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) will be offering workshops to help the department's consumers get up to speed with Apple iOS7 VoiceOver and other new features of the new operating system. Sessions will be offered at different locations around the state beginning in November. Take this opportunity to increase your skills on iPads that will be available for use during the workshops!

      Looking back on a year of change (2012) and new beginnings at IDB

      Orientation Center student Jerad Nylin graduates from the program.(01-15-13) The New Year has arrived and 2013 is under way at the Iowa Department for the Blind. While our work to help blind and visually impaired Iowans find and retain employment, remain independent in their homes, and live productive and fulfilling lives continues, it’s also a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. What better time to pause and review the significant accomplishments achieved during 2012?

      DES MOINES— Blind and visually impaired youth in grades 1 through 12 from across Iowa will gather in Des Moines on Saturday, February 2nd, to test their Braille skills in the annual Iowa Braille Challenge.
