'The First' to Cross the Riverwalk Bridge
IDB employees Jodi George and Michael Barber were selected at random to be the first visually impaired people to "cane" across the Principal Riverwalk's Center Street Bridge as part of its opening ceremony on Monday, June 28.
Celebrating 30 Years of Independent Living
Last week, the Iowa Department for the Blind's Independent Living program launched its 30th anniversary celebration with a party in Wapello. Other celebrations are planned in August, September and October throughout Iowa to celebrate this milestone.

Working in Iowa: A partnership to 'Think Beyond the Label'
The Iowa Department for the Blind has partnered with the national "Think Beyond the Label” campaign to promote hiring people with disabilities. The campaign launched earlier this year to show that hiring people with disabilities is good for businesses.
An Act of Beauty
This week, orientation center students took to the roof and got their hands dirty as they replanted the roof garden after a long, cold winter. The students, who purchased flowers from a local greenhouse, prepared the pots and planted the flowers and plants, did it all without using their vision, using sleep shades to block out whatever usable vision they have.

Summer Art Workshops with Ann Cunningham
