Perhaps the best way to evaluate a potential employee is to work with him or her on the job site.
Department staff can provide on-the-job training by first conducting a worksite assessment to determine the job tasks and then develop and deliver customized training for those tasks. In some select instances, the Department will pay the employee's wages for a time-limited period.
These situations allow both the employer and the Department to evaluate the employee's performance. If the employer is satisfied with the employee's work, the employer will begin paying the wages.
