Feed the Alligators: Catapult Challenge

GAME SUPPLIES

  • Catapult supplies kit
  • 4 jingly bells (yum!)
  • 1 colorful plastic cup (a.k.a. the alligator's mouth)
  • 8 foam board “teeth”
  • 2 googly eyes (no gator is complete without ‘em!)
  • Tape 

STEP 1: Build Your Bug-Launching Catapult!

Open up your catapult kit and follow the directions inside. You’ll be creating your very own bug (bell)-flinging launcher!

STEP 2: Create Your Chompy Alligator Cup!

Let’s give our hungry gator some serious bite:

  1. Lay a sticky-side-up piece of tape on the table.
  2. Place 4 foam teeth on it and wrap them around one side of the cup’s rim.
  3. Repeat on the other side = your alligator now has TEETH!
  4. Roll up two tiny tape balls (sticky side out), stick them to the googly eyes, then attach the eyes to the side of the cup (just under the teeth).

GAME TIME! – Feed the Gator

  • How many bells can you feed the gator in 60 seconds?
  • 1 bell in the cup = 1 point. Most points win!
  • Move the gator farther after each round!

Appalachian Cabin Dice Game

GAME SUPPLIES

  • Wikki Stix
  • Tactile Log Cabin Mat (raised Lines)
  • Tactile game dice
  • Cabin Parts Key
  • Cut Out Cabin Pieces

ROLL TO BUILD

1 - Walls ■ “Timberrr!” Pretend to chop wood—swing your arms and make sound effects! 

2 - Roof ■ A storm’s coming! Make wind and thunder sounds. Hold onto your roof! 

3 - Door ■ Knock-knock! Tell us a secret password to open your magical door. 

4 - Chimney ■Puff! Puff! Blow the smoke out of the chimney 3 times. 

5 – Round Window: Use Wikki Stix â– Look out your window and shout what wild animal you hear! Form your wikki stix into the circle shape of the window. 

6 – Firewood: Use Wikki Stix â– Use your arms as the logs and stack them up. Say, “Let’s start the fire.” Decide how you want to use the Wikki Stix to make your firewood pile.

Teepee Tales Game

GAME SUPPLIES

  • 1 paper lunch bag (pre-cut)
  • A piece of string or pipe cleaner
  • Stickers (3D is preferred)
  • A crayon / scented marker
  • Tactile game dice 

SET UP YOUR TEEPEE

  • Stand up your paper bag
  • Twist the top and tie it with a string or pipe cleaner!
  • Place your teepee in front of you—This is where your story will come to life!

HOW TO PLAY

Take turns rolling your dice. Each number tells you what to draw or stick on your teepee! 

  1. Draw a mountain
  2. Add a sun sticker
  3. Add an animal or a butterfly sticker
  4. Add a tree or flower (draw or sticker)
  5. Add a special shape, like a heart or swirl
  6. Make something magical—your choice!

TELL YOUR STORY

After a few rounds, show off your teepee and tell a mini story about who lives inside and what the symbols on the outside mean!

The Great Egg Carton Boat Float-Off Challenge

GAME SUPPLIES

  • Half an egg carton (6 cups)
  • One wooden dowel or straw
  • One foam sheet or piece of paper
  • Some tape or a hole punch
  • And some tiny treasures: coins, buttons, shells, LEGOs—anything small! 

TIME TO BUILD

  • Step One: Take your foam sheet or paper and poke two holes—one on each end. Now slide the dowel or straw through both holes. “You’ve just made your sail!”
  • Step Two: Stick the sail into the middle of your egg carton. Right into one of the cups. “Now you’ve got a real boat!”
  • Step Three: Carefully float your boat in a tub or bowl of water. “Don’t worry—if you don’t have water, you can still play by guessing and testing later.”

FLOAT-OFF CHALLENGE

Can you guess how many treasures your boat can hold before it SINKS?!

  • When I say go, everyone will place one treasure inside your boat and start counting, 1 treasure, 2 treasure, 3 treasure, until the boat starts tipping!
  • As soon as your boat tips over or sinks, yell out, MAYDAY!
  • Then count your treasures. 

Bonus Challenge: Can you make your boat float better? Spread out your treasures OR try smaller items. Move your sail to a different cup OR add waves (gently blow on the water).

Mystery Clay - What’s Hiding Inside?

  • Paper bag
  • Air-dry clay
  • A variety of small objects
  • A tactile map (optional)

HOW TO PLAY

Step 1: Explore the Mystery Bag

  • Reach into the paper bag and explore the object with your fingers.
  • Say what you feel: “Is it bumpy? Smooth? Spiky?”
  • Guess what you think it is. (No wrong answers!)

Step 2: Make a Clay Fossil

  • Press the clay firmly all over one of the items found in the bag, or find a fossil impression on the fossil tactile map.
  • Peel it off and explore the fossil impression. (How does it feel compared to the object?)

Step 3: The Fossil Reveal! 

Grand Canyon Animal Trail

GAME SUPPLIES

  • 24 Piece Puzzle mixed with a rhinestone or sticker trail
  • Scented Marker

HOW TO PLAY

Answer 12 fun animal and canyon-themed questions. Each correct answer earns 1 rhinestone puzzle piece. Choose between 2 answer options for each question. Add 2 pieces to your puzzle to build a sparkling Grand Canyon trail. Complete all 24 pieces to finish the puzzle and become a Junior Canyon Explorer!
