About LEAP
Leadership Education Advocacy Program
LEAP is a dynamic summer residential program for youth ages 14–21. This enriching experience empowers participants to build lifelong friendships, develop essential blindness skills, and gain the confidence needed to successfully transition to higher education or the workforce. Through hands-on learning, students receive instruction in braille, technology, travel, home management, independent living, college preparedness, and job readiness. LEAP also fosters a positive philosophy of blindness, emphasizing self-advocacy, confidence, and empowerment.
But LEAP isn’t all work—participants also enjoy a wide variety of fun and engaging recreational activities! These include: Iowa Cubs games, Adventureland, Rock climbing, Axe throwing, Going to the movies, Hanging out at the mall, Trampoline parks, Swimming, Goalball, Grilling, and much more!
Additionally, this year, some LEAP participants will have the opportunity to attend the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, from Tuesday, July 8, to Sunday, July 13. The Convention offers access to a wide range of national and international resources, including student-focused divisions, career-driven divisions, technology workshops, job fairs, networking events, and advocacy opportunities.
