Dear Doctor,

Your commitment to preserving and improving vision is a gift to countless patients across Iowa. During Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, we at the Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) recognize your dedication to supporting children's diagnoses and the uncertainty that often accompanies vision loss.

We also understand that, even with the best medical efforts and the most advanced treatment available, some children will still face significant vision loss or blindness. Even if a patient’s sight can’t be fully restored, your role in their future remains critical. By delivering accurate information with a resilient, forward-looking perspective, you can set the tone for a future filled with joy and success!

The Iowa Department for the Blind: A Resource for You and Your Patients

IDB is the state rehabilitation agency for Iowans of all ages who are blind and have low vision. Through our engaging and hands-on training, blind and low vision children can:

  • Excel academically at the same level as their peers
  • Participate in extracurricular activities
  • Attend college or pursue the career of their choice

Our services include:

  • Training for people of all ages in nonvisual skills, such as cane travel, braille, low vision aids, home management, and adaptive technology
  • Access to the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, which has thousands of braille, large print, and audiobooks
  • Programs for blind and low vision youth that prepare them for success in school, higher education, and employment
  • Services for older adults adjusting to vision loss

Let’s Connect!

We invite you to reach out to us for a tour, brochures, referral materials, or just to set up a conversation about how we can collaborate.

With appreciation,
