2025 Summer Reading Program Recap
The 2025 Summer Reading Program, Power Up: Game On for Summer Reading, delivered an engaging and enriching experience for 37 participants across eight exciting weeks. Held in virtual 45-minute sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the program combined storytelling, creativity, games, STEM, and special guest speakers.
Each week focused on a new U.S. region through fun themes such as Bigfoot’s Backyard (Pacific Northwest), Treasure in the Desert (Southwest), Lighthouse Lights & Great Lakes Sights, and more! Mondays featured arts-based activities, Wednesdays brought interactive games and mystery adventures, and Fridays highlighted STEM activities and special guest appearances.
Throughout the summer, participants received weekly boxes filled with everything they needed to follow along during the virtual sessions. Each box included a detailed itinerary, supplies for the three weekly activities, and any prizes earned from the previous week—such as for wearing their SRP t-shirts or winning games! To ensure accessibility for all, every activity came with its own set of instructions provided in either large print or braille, tailored to each participant’s individual needs.
What truly stood out this year was the enthusiasm and positive feedback from families.
- One parent shared, “He is excited to have done these chapters and is wanting to create his own book someday! He really enjoys the summer reading program. Thank you so much for making this program available! We struggle to find things to keep him busy during the summer as both Aaron and I work during the day. He is looking forward to next year!"
- Another noted, "These reading boxes, and the amazing activities are making our summer so special… The cooking is such an incredible extension. My 16-year-old, who is working on life skills, has loved these recipes.”
