2026 Summer Youth Programming 

In this episode, April Stotz, IDB’s new Education and Training Administrator, shares exciting details about LEAP — a summer residential camp for youth ages 14–21! During LEAP, students have the opportunity to build career readiness skills, gain independence, and connect with peers in a fun and supportive environment. Each two-week block features a different theme and new experiences to explore. Participants spend the first two weeks living on Drake University’s campus before continuing the summer at the Iowa Department for the Blind. It’s an incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and make lasting memories!

Denise Bean, Youth Librarian at the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, also joins the episode to preview the 2026 Summer Reading Program! This virtual program is open to youth of all ages and is packed with interactive activities, fun surprises, and exciting prizes. Denise shares this year’s theme, details about the items participants will receive, and all the ways students can join the adventure this summer.
