      Accessibility 101 for Iowa's Workforce System

      June 13th – August 7th (Self-paced using Google Classroom)

      The Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB), through its Instructional Materials Center and Library will be offering an 8 week online, self-paced course focusing on providing an introduction to accessibility topics for Iowa’s Workforce System. The 8 modules will utilize online discussion, self-paced practical assignments, and resources for reference and ongoing learning to give participants knowledge and skills that will help them to make Iowa Works offerings better for all job seekers and businesses.

      Course Outline

      To give participants an introduction to accessibility and universal design that will provide them with practical knowledge and skills that will help them to create materials, programs, and services that can be accessed by all job seekers.

      Wednesdays at 10:00am - staff will hold office hours to answer questions and provide assistance.

      2. Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) for Workforce Development
        A. Relevant laws and policies
        B. Introduction to Accessible Formats

      3. Introduction to Accessibility
        A. What is accessibility? How do you design for accessibility and access?

      4. Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
        A. What is UDL and why it is important when designing programs and services

      5. Introduction Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
